For my media course I am studying the music industry and we were informed to carry out a questionnaire made by our group and film people answering it. We went into the inner city streets and found a lot of stereotypical people who had been to Glastonbury and liked indie music and some who didn’t like festivals and were into puck rock. We asked 10 people, we aimed to ask five girls and five boys, but some sounded muffled because of the traffic. We wanted to ask people who were different to each other, had different interests and genres in music. We found this easier by asking people in different locations, we found the more punk stereotype found typically at the forum and the typical 'shopoholic' trendy in the shopping mall. We are using this for research into the music industry and how audiences relate to music, this will also be very helpful in my mini project over the summer as i will need a lot of audience research and views fro the public.
The questions:
1) What music do you listen to?
2) How do you listen to your music?
3) Are you going to any festicals/gigs this upcoming summer?
4) What's your favourite genre?
5) What's your worst genre?
6) when do you listen to music the most?
The outcome of this was successful and we have edited it into a mini clip, we found that everyone uses music as a past time, and everyone owns and uses an ipod. When we asked two older people they both used older music as their favourite genre, for example on middle-aged women said the 60's was her favourite genre. This was interesting; as we got very conflicting answers form very different music consumers.
