Artist And Audience Research: Laura Marling

Production company: Virgin Records UK

Subsidiary label: Virgin Records merged in 2007 with Capitol Records to produce Capitol Music Group.

Audience Demographic:
Laura Marling's music is County folk Rock/ Alternative. I broused Marling's music myspace/.com/lauramarling and found the majority of her fans were young teenagers around 15 to young women around 26, and were mostly form opposite continents (America and England). Most comments were how influenced her music was by her and supportive feedback "Never stop making music Laura". I checked her audience's myspaces for age and interests and music and found that most of them make music themselves and are unsigned. This is probably as Marling was found on myspace and is a role model towards young artists. Also which i found interesting was that most of Laura's music is folk influenced (Neil young, Bob Dylan, Jeffery Lewis) and her fans interest in music is mostly Folk as well.

Distribution:
Her album doesn't appear in normal format, instead Marling displayed her music in a songbox she designed. Its a trinket box containing postcards, trinkets, stories and a concert ticket to her shows in March. The idea came from her studio owner who said how people are using music for wallpaper and listening on bad head phones on mp3s downloaded. " I wanted people to love music, I want people to treasure it, not just my songs, but treasure music"- Laura Marling (www.lauramarling.com). her debt album 'Alas I Cannot Swim) is produced by Noah And The whale main man Charlie Funk, and her first single "London Run" was released in a limited edition run by Way Out West (7").
